Ben Spurrier, CPA

After earning his degree in Finance from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, Ben took a less conventional path. He spent several years immersed in seasonal work, outdoor recreation, and international travel — often by bicycle. Traveling through unfamiliar landscapes gave Ben a lasting sense of resilience, openness to the unexpected, and appreciation for different ways of life.

Between travels, Ben served with AmeriCorps in New Hampshire, supporting underserved communities through education and access to the outdoors. He later helped manage a backcountry hut network in Maine, where teamwork, community, and simplicity became central themes in his life.

Ben eventually returned to finance with a fresh perspective, drawn to the structure and challenge of U.S. tax law. He began in public accounting, focusing on tax planning and compliance for individuals and businesses. He then moved into corporate tax, where he tackled complex issues across multiple states and worked closely with teams across finance and operations. Throughout, Ben earned a reputation for his calm, collaborative style and his commitment to quality.
